Overview

Stillbirths are a hidden tragedy that impacts millions of women and families across the globe daily. The stillbirth rate is one of the indicators of the quality of a country's healthcare system. Stillbirths are a significant public health problem in India.

Aim

Aligned with the national priority of ending preventable stillbirths and neonatal mortality, ICMR undertook a project aimed at consolidating existing data from multiple cohort studies.

Objectives

  • To collate individual datasets and examine the determinants, risk factors and potential impactful interventions to develop national guidelines and policies for reducing preventable stillbirths and neonatal mortality.
  • To prioritize the use of emerging evidence from published studies and clinical trials as well as identify gaps to inform prospective studies.

ICMR planned to create a pooled database from ten cohort studies including LIFE study for secondary data analysis.
